MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06 Title: Pork Shashlik In Kefir Categories: Five, Pork, Dairy Yield: 4 Servings 1 kg Lean pork 6 lg Onions 2 l Kefir Salt & Pepper Green parsley Kefir is a fermented milk drink that originated in the Caucasus region. It is prepared by inoculating cow, goat, or sheep's milk with kefir grains. Traditional kefir was made in skin bags that were hung near a doorway; the bag would be knocked by anyone passing through the doorway to help keep the milk and kefir grains well mixed. Today kefir is usually made from cow's milk and sold as regular dairy products. Cut pork into cubes (5-6 cm). Slice onions. Place a layer of pork in a saucepan, follow with a layer of onion slices. Repeat layer by layer. Season each layer with salt, pepper and other spices. Pour in kefir and refrigerate overnight. Thread pork cubes onto skewers alternating with onions slices. Baste with marinade or whit dry wine while grilling. Grill until light brown but still juicy.
