MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06 Title: Irish Coffee Soda Bread Categories: Breads, Dairy, Booze Yield: 9 Servings 2 c All-purpose flour; more for - dusting 2 c Whole-wheat flour 1/4 c Packed dark brown sugar 1 1/2 ts Kosher salt 1 ts Baking soda 4 tb Chilled unsalted butter; in - 1/2" cubes 1 1/2 c Buttermilk 1/4 c Irish whiskey 3 tb Instant espresso powder 1 lg Egg; lightly beaten Heat the oven to 375A░F/190A░C. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle, whisk both flours with the sugar, salt and baking soda to combine. Add the butter and mix on medium-low speed until the butter is the size of peas. In a large measuring cup, whisk the buttermilk with the whiskey, espresso powder, and egg until smooth. With the stand mixer on low speed, pour the buttermilk into the dry ingredients and mix just until the dough comes together. Scrape the dough onto a lightly floured work surface, form into a ball, and then transfer to a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Using a serrated knife, cut a cross into the top of the dough ball and bake until the bread puffs and is dark golden brown on the outside, 50 to 55 minutes.
