My wife got me a Squire Jazz bass for Christmas:

I don't have it setup yet, so it's still hard on the fingers, but it does sound
great. So now I have one of each (P-Bass and J-Bass) and I'm set for a while.

But I did just order for my daughter (turning 14) a Fender Mustang (special low
price):

... an upgrade from her Squire Bronco (the cheapest decent short scale bass,
though barely sufficient in quality).

So I have bass guitars coming out my ears right now!
