As a moderator of several Fidonet echoes, I know that behavior is frowned upon
by many.  I don't specifically 
ban the behavior in my echoes but it's more of a common courtesy thing.  If
you're in an echo that would 
support that (such as an echo that would support pipe codes with a particular
BBS software that is the topic), 
that's different.

Just my two cents' worth (adjusted for inflation, of course).
