LL> ΓÇ£One question in my mind, which I hardly dare mention in public, is
LL> whether patriotism has, overall, been a force for good or evil in the
LL> world. Patriotism is rampant in war and there are some good things
LL> about it. Just as self-respect and pride bring out the best in an
LL> individual, pride in family, pride in teammates, pride in hometown
LL> bring out the best in groups of people. War brings out the kind of
LL> pride in country that encourages its citizens in the direction of
LL> excellence and it encourages them to be ready to die for it. At no
LL> time do people work so well together to achieve the same goal as they
LL> do in wartime. Maybe that's enough to make patriotism eligible to be
LL> considered a virtue. If only I could get out of my mind the most
LL> patriotic people who ever lived, the Nazi Germans.ΓÇ¥
LL> ~ Andy Rooney, My War

I agree and understand and knew of Andy Rooney as he was a public figure, he
was born in Albany, NY even bought his first car at Orange Ford, what was a
Ford dealership for 70+ years, now it is a extension of the DePaula Auto group
at 799 Central.

LL> LL> Today, Germans are our friends. And to think, according to Reporters
LL> Without Borders, Germany ranks far higher than the USA in regards to
LL> freedom of the press (free speech). Why is that? Not because any of
LL> them are good Nazis, as most Germans have denounced that philosophy
LL> long ago ...

They also do not look at nudity at the same way and are not as nearly as
uptight about it then American's are.

 LL> >adjective: ignorant
 LL> >
LL> >lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated.
LL> > "he was told constantly that he was ignorant and stupid"
 LL>
LL> Germans were a well-educated people who openly praised Adolf Hitler.
LL> He took office through legal means, and was widely supported until
LL> just before Berlin fell to the Allied powers during WWII. Even
LL> after the war, many former Nazis continued to serve in government
LL> positions, although no longer serving a Fuhrer as their god.

You are talking out of context or it is a misunderstanding.
This was never directed at you or at any German; past or present.

Let it be known that I do not support what Hitler did with respect to his
final solution, -attempt to commit total genocide of the Jewish people, or
those who died by his aggression.

I do not agree with what the U.S. and what the allied powers did, attacking
the innocent, bombing German cities and murdering innocent German's who were
not part of any any military facility. I do not agree with that. Just as I do
not agree with what the United States did in Japan, with the dropping of two
atomic bombs on the innocent. The Japanese government could not see or hear
that we meant business, until there was tremendous loss of life of the
innocent.

Today we: within the (U.S.) are friends with the Germans and also friends with
the Japanese.

I can you guarantee this, if Hitler never committed mass murder, never
attacked Russia and did not attack the United Kingdom. Germany today would be
vastly different today. It wouldn't be the sanctuary that it is today for
Muslims.
