Hi again, Alexander! This is a continuation of my previous message to you: I took a break for awhile because my last two paragraphs were rather dense... meaning, in EdBiz jargon, that I didn't employ a lot of "white space" ... and because I have been around Fidonet long enough to know that if I don't limit my messages to 95 lines they may be lost or truncated en route. Anyway, here's the plot summary which I wouldn't want anybody to miss: ak> But from another side we can limit themselves and don't ak> use exotic characters as cedilla or acute. In this case ak> we can preserve all things as they are now. In general I think it's the best option. We make allowances for one another... as I make allowances for an octogenarian BBS user elsewhere who can be relied upon for great examples of how *not* to quote, when we want to avoid clumsy line wrapping or chain saw effects. I'll go so far as to spell "elite" without the accent mark if it's an acceptable alternative in Canadian English. In that regard I concede to US English. But I also concede to UK English when I say "trousers" because I realize "pants" may have a different meaning in Old Blighty. I figured that out years ago when as a newlywed I used the latter in the presence of a uncle-in-law I hadn't met previously... [blush]. What we're striving for is clear communication. If I need you to type some word with the Latin alphabet and/or you need me to spell out accent marks, we can cope. :-) --- timEd/386 1.10.y2k+ * Origin: Wits' End, Vancouver CANADA (1:153/716) |
