Holger, GA, HG> @MSGID: <568665A7.14673.windowsa@capcity2.synchro.net> HG> In a message on Tuesday 12-26-15 Ed Vance said to Holger Granholm: HG> GE Ed, EV> Some product specifications don't have both U.S. and Metric Units EV> listed. I appreciate it when both values are given. HG> Same goes here, not for units, but for product names and HG> specifications. All products made/sold in Finland must have the HG> specifications and names in both finnish and swedish, because Finland HG> has two official national languages. HG> There's just a small "problem", the text in swedish is invariably HG> printed with much smaller text (types). Apparently the swedish talking HG> humans are supposed to have a much better eyesight. IIRC Mark is the one who mentioned I could pres the CRTL Key and move the Mouse Wheel to Enlarge or Shrink what I see in Firefox Browser. Hope that TIP can help You see the Swedish text on those pages on Your OS/2 Computers. I've found that TIP works in other programs too. I use it in Irfanview lots of times by pressing the Print Scr Key when I see something on the screen that I can't make out, and then opening Irfanview and Pasting it in, then Enlargeing the image. When I'm done looking at it I press the D key and then Exit out of Irfanview. EV> The first Metric Value I learned was in the instruction sheet for EV> how to use Kodak Chemicals to develop 35MM Film. HG> I have never developed any film, but I have made printed circuit HG> boards, and the procedure is very similar to developing film. Me too, both are chemicle reactions, either to change the Film Emulsion or the Copper on the PC Board to get the desired change. EV> 20C was a even number and it was easy for me to remember that was EV> the same as 68F when I a young teenager, iirc 14 Years Old then. HG> Yes, I know, 32F is a number I remember, and then the Fahrenheit scale HG> goes up/down roughly 2F to 1C. NOTE, I wrote roughly, actually 1.8.F. 32F is 0C . When I see the number 0 I think about My first Ham Radio Call Letters were KN4ZIQ, the ZIQ part meaning Zero Intelligence Quotient, My I.Q.=ZERO. EV> In the early 1960's I bought a Circular Slide Rule and a Weights And EV> Measures Conversion Table from a store in Hong Kong, then A British EV> Crown Colony. EV> Their Weights And Measures Conversion Table had Equivalents of EV> Imperial, Metric and Japanese weights and measures. HG> OK. EV> I have forgotten that the U.S. Units are called Imperial and have EV> thought the Japanese Units were the ones called Imperial, My Mistake HG> I think that expression may come from Britain having a lot of colonies HG> around the globe. They were said to belong to the british imperium or HG> commonwealth. I've heard of The British Commonwealth, but never noticed the word Imperium. that's a new one to Me. EV> Of course, You know I turn my UPS Off when I'm done using the EV> computers, I just figure it being plugged in the A.C. Wall Outlet EV> keeps the battery charged up. HG> Well, the UPS keeps the battery charged up all the time when you use HG> your computer. EV> I still wonder if the Tripp-Lite UPS charges the battery when I have EV> it turned OFF, but without a Schematic I wouldn't know for sure. HG> Of course it doesn't. I got a Email from Tripp-Lite and it said the UPS I have charges the battery and a reduced rate when I turn it off. -snip- EV> OS/2 figured out a Better Way than MS has, I'd say. HG> That's the truth and is necessary in commercial applications like HG> servers. I have read about Servers using Linux OS's, didn't know any were using OS/2, Thanks. -snip- EV> Yep, the Nuvistors do that job. HG> Please don't use words/names that you don't know the meaning of. HG> The nuvistors are/were low-power triodes, used in UHF amplifiers HG> (6CW4), and UHF oscillators (6DV4) up to 1000 MHz. EV> MOV - Metal Oxide Varistor is the ISTOR I should had typed. HG> There are many different "istors". Maybe it's hard to know them all. I haven't read much about building electronic projects lately. I just could think of the devices name when I wrote Nuvistors earlier. Yes, it is hard to keep remembering all of the newer Part, Semiconductors and I.C.'s and what they do. It's a Full Time Job for A Electronic Repairman keeping up to date on all of that stuff too, isn't it? HG> MRI XMAS, EV> I did have a good one, hope Yours was good also. HG> Yes, certainly I did. I received a Dell laptop from my GS. The company HG> he works for has renewed all computers, and I suppose he got it at a HG> good price. HG> It came with Windows 10 Pro, upgraded from Win7 pro. I'm now HG> configuring it so that it will withstand any attack. From what I read at askwoody.com of His comments and Other People commenting on His articles, WINTEN isn't for the ordinary computer user. Hope You, Jean, Alan and Everyone else using WINTEN and learn how to Tame The Beast. HG> Happy New Year! It's a week after New Years Day, and I'm still catching up reading BBS mail.
