In a message on Thursday 05-08-17 Ed Vance said to All:

Hi Ed,

Excuse me for the delay of this reply, but it's intentional.

I wanted to be sure I gave you the correct timing of the Win10pro system
start-up that I use.

EV> Yesterday when I started up this XP pc, after I Logged On to the
EV> limited account I watched a blue screen saying "loading your
EV> settings" for ten or twelve minutes.

EV> After turning on the Router I will wait ten minutes for it and the
EV> DSL Modem to finish their handshaking and then I press the power

EV> I wait this long for the Router/DSL Modem before turning on the
EV> computer because in the past if I hadn't waited - when the Limited
EV> Account desktop shows up, the LAN icon in the Tray will show "not
EV> connected".

It was a bit difficult to give you a structured reply to the above, so
I'll just give you the start-up timings for the Win10 machine:

First I switch on the "router" or modem, then the screen and finally the
computer. All as fast as my finger moves from one to another switch.

I have the router set to automatically connect.

After abt 3 seconds the machine asks for the HD password + enter.
After 7 - 8 seconds the first Windows screen appears, which is confirmed
with enter...

Now comes the screen asking for the Windows pwrd or PIN code. After
entering the needed PIN-code it takes another 7 - 8 seconds for the main
screen with all the icons to appear.

That's it.

EV> Patience...........

Yeah, as I said previously, you missed the train, while Win10 was a free
upgrade to machines with Win7 or later. I couldn't resist the fre offer,
so I bought a second hand Win7 machine and got it upgraded to Win10.

That was after my first experience of Win10pro in the laptop I received
for XMAS from my GS.

NOTE: I have a HD/BIOS password set on all my machines. Nobody carring
away any of my machines will have any use of what's in them, since the
pwrd protects both the HD and BIOS.
