Message   Holger Granholm    Paul Quinn   Re: Winton Supercars race   June 8, 2016
 9:49 AM *

In a message on Wednesday 06-07-16 Paul Quinn said to Holger Granholm:

Hi Paul,

Thanks for letting me, ad others, know that all is well.

HG> correct, the only name within that distance from Melbourne is Albury.

PQ> It's more likely to be Benalla still, mate. I checked again with
PQ> uncle Google: the event is called the 'Austin 7 Club Historic
PQ> Winton', and this year was the 40th anniversary meet.

We have a "Highlights" from Winton coming up on friday, and I'll try to
catch that name again, if I'm at home. Just for because of curiosity ;o)

PQ>> Thank you. It's raining. First day of winter and we're having a
PQ>> cold 'snap', 24C max with a "shower or two".

Last night we too got some rain. Some drops were still coming at 08:00,
and I see the puddles on the parking area.

PQ> Well, we've copped it in buckets' full since then. Maybe the news
PQ> isn't as widely reported over there.

Maybe because we do get more rainy days, than we BELIEVE there are in OZ

PQ> there was a 'perfect' alignment of 3 or 4 low pressure systems from
PQ> here in the Wide Bay region, all the way down the eastern seaboard
PQ> of OZ to Hobart in Tasmania.

At the moment we have a quite deep low pressure over north scandinavia,
that is creating very strong winds down to the middle of Swe/Fin, and
the wind has increased here too, so that I had to loch down the balcony
door, and shut the window in this room too.

PQ> The effect of the alignment of lows had a rolling consequence down
PQ> the coast, over an approximate 48 hour period. In a lot of
PQ> instances at coastal communities, the enormous associated rainfall
PQ> combined with increased 'king' tides producing flooding events.

Yeah, that's what we were told, and shown pictures of, in the news.

PQ> Some towns along the coastal strip received record rainfall dumps
PQ> also. One report I recall hearing from a country town in NSW (north
PQ> of Sydney?) receiving 461mm _overnight_ (yes, near half a metre).

Up to that amount was also predicted for northern Finland today/tomorrow

PQ> Many city & town businesses, and beach homes have sustained
PQ> incredible erosion and/or flood damage. One house that has featured
PQ> prominently on TV reports had completely lost their backyard, which
PQ> had once fronted directly on to the beach, 30m distant.

Yes, that was also shown on the news, as well as other houses hanging
partly in the air.

That was also the reason, why I was a bit worried for your well being,
knowing (or thinking), that the area where you live, may be quite near
to sea level.

PQ> We have plenty to share. Come get some. ;)

Thanks, I'll remember your offer, <BG>.

PQ> Except for the weekend, which brought freezing wind(chill) and
PQ> humidity, we've now settled into roughly 12/13-22/24C days again.
PQ> Cold enough of a night for one blanket still.

That's the temperatures we too had last week until yesterday, but now at
09:30 the temperature was 8°C and rain is again falling.

PQ> to an equinox, Holger. Maybe we'll share similar temperature ranges
PQ> as well as length of days, for a short space of time. :)

Yes probably, when the REAL summer starts. What we have had so far, has
been some sort of appetizing pre-summer.

PQ> Thank you. I'm having trouble slowing down tonight as I've got a
PQ> wonky mouse on my netbook (which prevented an earlier reply BTW).
PQ> Just pulled a spare from my upstairs stash to try... Good night.

My GS could'nt quite understand my joy over the joy-stick planted in the
middle of the keyboard, on the Dell laptop I received for XMAS from him.

That machine does also have a touch pad, but I like the joy-stick more,
because I've become used to that on the Lenovo laptops I have.

Have a nice evening,

Holger
