Way back on August 6 I was returning from an errand and found a starving dog eating a dead bird that had been lying in my driveway for a couple of days. She had obviously delivered a litter of puppies within the preceding couple of days and was trying to care for them - but domestic dogs don't know how to hunt. Pushover that I am, I fed her and set up a feeding station at the end of my driveway so she could find food there. It took me until August 12 to find her den and move her and her puppies down to my place. It was in an unused metal grain bin about a mile from my place. In October the puppies (3 male, 2 female) went out for adoption through the People 4 Paws organization in Shenandoah, IA. The mother, which I've named "Karma," has gained a bit over 20 pounds and is up to her normal weight of 50 pounds --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5 * Origin: Fido Since 1991 | QWK by Web | BBS.FIDOSYSOP.ORG (1:123/140) |
