Oy.  My company recently had a mass exodus because the new people that
handled our contractors realized that there were tons of people in all
different departments that, instead of being there for 2 years then converted
to employees OR let go and replaced (as was supposed to be done), they were
going on over a decade of remaining contractors.  These were older people who
had a lot of expertise in their area of responsibility.

So they let them all go, and with it went all the knowledge they possessed. 
Now it's on my group to tell them how to do their jobs on the regular.
