Hi Mark, >>>> modified my /etc/services file. If you do need to specify the port, >>>> bbbs's telnet is on port 2030. >>> yeah, services is only for the local system... it doesn't >>> auto-propogate anywhere else >> True, but... if as I already mentioned you telnet to filegate.net, it >> will work just fine because filegate.net's telnet port is 2030 > and you're not getting hit by MIRAI still? I'm not getting hit with those bad repeated connections, no. I see only valid telnet connections by users now. >if it works like that for us mere > humans with telnet terminals, it would do the same for MIRAI and other bots > attempting to get in on the telnet port... It's the _standard_ telnet and http ports, and 'alt-http' ports that normally get hit on a linux box. Mostly I have always used iptables to control troublemakers who hit those ports and still do. For some reason iptables wasn't taking care of port 23 (telnet). That's when I changed the port. I noticed this week there were multiple updates to my linux box even having at least two kernal upgrades for security fixes for this version of Ubuntu, perhaps I could switch it back to port 23, but this is working so I'm leaving it <grin> Take care, Janis --- BBBS/Li6 v4.10 Dada-2 * Origin: Prism bbs (1:261/38) |
