On 04-15-19, EARL CROASMUN said to TIM RICHARDSON: EC>Tim, EC>This is old news now, since Ross is never coming back to Fidonet, but I EC>am cleaning out old files from my hard drive and I came across this item EC>that I stored away. On August 25, 2000, after Dan Ceppa discussed his EC>experiences with a huge fire at Yellowstone Park, Ross upped the ante by EC>tossing in his experiences with Mt. St. Helens: EC>"I know what you mean. EC>I lived in Yakima, Washington back in the spring of 1980. EC>Two weeks after that hill west of me threw up, a friend and I went into EC>the EC>area, (but not too close). EC>We saw plants and animals already starting to come back, and this was only EC>a couple weeks after that area was nearly scoured. EC>(You haven't lived until you've walked through an area that used to be a EC>forest of TALL trees, mowed down like sticks.)" EC>Years later, of course, he swore that he had never lived anywhere but EC>Sheboygan and San Antonio. I know you keep archives, but didn't know if EC>you wanted to archive this or not. EC>- - - - - EC>|From: ROSS SAUER EC>|To: GOD DAN EC>ub: Burns Me Up EC>|Date: 25 Aug 00 10:56:04 -> -> On 21 Aug 00 10:13:18, Curtis Johnson got back to God Dan -> -> MG> Maybe you'd like to develop Yellowstone? -> -> GD> I'd sooner sit on 'Old Sparky' before I'd let that happen. -> CJ> -> CJ> There are a few sparks flying around there right now: -> -> CJ> "Yellowstone Estates: Where the firewood comes to you -> CJ> already lit!" -> -> LOL! -> -> Been their, done that, had my shirt singed. -> -> It was about 15 yrs ago I lived 'near' Yellowstone when a large -> portion of the Park went up in flames. I could see the light from -> the fires at night, about 165 miles away. -> -> Trust me, the only thing that was lost was some buildings. The -> Park was rejuvenating itself within days after the fire. -> -> BTW, that particular fire was so great because natural fires were -> put out far to quickly. And, in all seriousness, with far more newly, -> _naturally_ planted trees than were lost in the fire. Not a single -> young tree that you may see in the fire areas of that time were -> planted by man. EC>I know what you mean. EC>I lived in Yakima, Washington back in the spring of 1980. EC>(You haven't lived until you've walked through an area that used to be a EC>forest of TALL trees, mowed down like sticks.) As it happens I was in Yakima, Washington sitting in a motel the Sunday St Helens went off big time. The ground shook like crazy and the tv almost went on the floor. When the shaking stopped I stepped outside to see if there was any damage, and a huge cloud rose from the distant west and to the south. St Helens had blown its stack! Unlikely Sauer ever set foot in Washington. Exept for a very short time spent in San Antonio, he probably never got out of Wisconsin. A niece of mine lives in Wisconsin with her husband and family. He's a retired Navy Commander, who commanded one of the last two Swift Boat groups. The Swift Boat was being discontinued just as he was retiring. --- *Durango b301 #PE* * Origin: Fido Since 1991 | QWK by Web | BBS.FIDOSYSOP.ORG (1:123/140) |
