While the US can and did handle small skirmishes - including the Bush 
minor's conquest of Iraq - if it gets involved in a major conventional 
war with either Russia or China it's going to get its butt kicked.  The 
reason is that the US has neither the industrial capacity nor the 
transportation capacity to support a major conventional war, and it 
would take probably a decade or more to rebuild those capabilities.

Note that for the Iraq fracas, Saddam allowed the US nearly a year to 
build up supply dumps for the 2003 invasion, a competent leader would 
not have allowed that
