Which means, of course, that they aren't eligible for POLITICAL asylum.

Apparently these caravans of "refugees" are being organized by leftist 
US citizens who are going down to Central America and convincing people 
they need to move here.  Those US citizens are also apparently paying 
for buses to move those people to the US border; the last group arrived 
at the US border a couple of weeks ago in a convoy of about fifty 
chartered buses - those penniless, destitute "refugees" didn't pay for 
that
