Hello Kurt,

WD>> I would love it when people would start using "undocumented" instead of
WD>> "illegal". The latter pushes them immediately into the criminal bracket
WD>> while they're just looking for a better life ...

KW> Undocumented border crossings are illegal, regardless of the intent.

Eskimos in Alaska and Siberia can freely travel between the US and
Russia without the need of a passport or any other documentation.

Cubans who made it to our shores could also do the same, until
Obama and Castro struck a deal normalizing relations between the
US and Cuba. Now Cubans who want to come here have to buy a
ticket and fly, rather than sneak across in a rickety boat.

KW> Our border situation is a mess.

Seems pretty peaceful to me. What is causing a mess is not
having enough housing for those seeking asylum. And not enough
judges to hear their cases.

KW> We need more workers in California than we let in legally, and everyone
KW> turns a blind eye to the thousands of farm workers who work for lower
wages
KW> than Americans would work for, and allow
KW> Big Ag to sell produce competitively.

We could send Mexico an economic package to develop their
agricultural programs. Then we could import the food grown
in Mexico so that Americans would have plenty to eat.

KW> People want illegal immigration to stop, people complain about border
KW> states going broke with welfare and human services expenses, but no one
KW> wants to pay $10 for a head of lettuce.

It's all relative. If folks have the $10 for a head of lettuce,
folks will have lots of $$$ to pay for other stuff.

KW> I've heard horror stories about non-citizens applying for public
KW> assistance, but most of the stories I've heard and seen are of people
KW> trying to keep their heads down, keep off the radar and make some money to
 KW> send home.

Most immigrants get here legally, through ports of entry.
Most undocumented workers also get here legally, through ports
of entry. Many immigrants, including undocumented workers,
send remittances to their families, or loved ones.

While some undocumented workers try their best to stay off
the radar, others do not mind letting folks know who they are.
How many undocumeted workers apply for public assistance?
Only the dumbest of the dumb. Unless they are trying to get
a free bus ticket back home.
