No, I doubt anyone wants into Guantanamo. OTOH, you deleted the part where I pointed out that it had recently been challenged by a caravan meaning that people DO want into that part of Spain. Apples and Oranges... or maybe Apples and Red Meat... no relation whatsoever. > MP> That said, I think most of those countries you listed above are members > MP> of the EU, only border other EU countries, and don't share borders with > MP> non-EU countries. Not real good examples. > Irrelevant. No, that is completely relevant. The EU has an open borders policy. The countries that share borders with non-EU contries have had issues keeping non-EU folks out in the past (you reference this below). The EU did not really want them protecting their borders, but they did. The EU countries that are most happy with open borders are the ones surrounded by other EU countries which, I suspect, includes your country. > the statement I reacted to was: > **************************************************************************** > The rest of your list of countries all have militaries that are > charge for protecting each country's borders. > **************************************************************************** That can't be the one you reacted to because it references your list of countries, which did not exist yet when you posted it. I responded to the same message that poster did... the one with the list. > Norway is not a EU-country. Neither are the Holy See, Liechtenstein, Monaco, > Andorra, Switzerland ... But Norway is a Schengen country, just as > Liechtenstein and Switzerland. Still making my point. > FYI ... The Schengen Area is an area comprising 26 European states that have > officially abolished passport and all other types of border control at their > mutual borders. The area mostly functions as a single jurisdiction for > international travel purposes, with a common visa policy So they have no protection at their non-shared borders, which would be what our left wants and would be an apples to apples comparison? >The borders are there, but no need of protecting the internal border. Most of >the outside border is "water". Except the area to the east, mainly the >southeast. There was a major influx of undocumented immigrants in the past but >that has been stopped in part by making it more difficult to make the trip (to >be honest, in winter it is hell), by keeping them and screening them close to >their point of departure in Turkey (for which the EU pays). Rejected applicants >for immigration are transported back tot heir country of origin ... that >screening is a process that can take years. That sounds good. Our political left does not want walls or screenings or anything that stops everyone from coming in... so long as they are of an ethnicity that they take for granted as one who sees things their way. So, if you are Mexican or Central American, come right on in! If you come across the sea from Haiti or the Dominican, come right on in! No criminal record, or a murderer, who cares?!? But if you come across from Cuba, we are sending your ass right back! >comparing our immigrant-scare wth yours is comparing oranges with apples. I agree, which makes me wonder what point your list of coutries without border protection was making in the first place. I sure missed it!
