Going back to when I was in the Air Force I always volunteered to 
work (pull CQ/NCOD) on holidays.

For several years I was off on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and finally my 
boss asked me why.  I have VERY low tolerance for office politics, 
and I told him that I could get p*ssed off on Mondays and Wednesdays, 
cool off on Tuesdays and Thursdays, get p*ssed off on Fridays and 
cool off - and get some work done - over the weekends.  He wasn't 
amused, but it's the absolute truth.
