Every Hobby I ever have been interested in starting or doing has cost more money than I have too. As a child me and my brothers had a O gauge Train Set, that's all. I saw a Layout at someone's house where a Model Train Club met, where they had O Gauge tracks all over the basement and had also built a Roundhouse. Iirc, on one side of the basement they had HO (or N?) Guage track set up. I don't have any N, O, or HO things, I just know the Lingo (a bit). I began a Stamp Collection when I was a child, and went to a Store about every Saturday to browse through the Postage Stamps they had for sale and would buy one or two with the Fifty Cents that my GrandMa gave me. I put them in a Scott's (iirc) Stamp Book. I gave that book to a Kid that lived next door (who also collected Stamps) before I enlisted in the Military. The Building that the Stamp Store was in also had a Coin Collector Store on the floor above the Stamp Store, but I didn't try to start collecting Coins or Paper Money. The price of Stamps was way lower than what they wanted for the merchandise in that Store on the Second Floor of the building. I got a Record Player that had a AM Radio in it for a Birthday Present before I was a Teenager. A Cousin gave me a box full of used 45 RPM Records that he pulled from some "Coin Operated Record Machines" that his Pin Ball Machine company had placed in Bars and Restaurants. After I got the Record Player, instead of going to the Stamp Store on Saturdays, I went to a Record Shop and would buy one or two 45's of Songs I had heard on the Radio, sometimes I'd get a 33 RPM record there. (Occasionally I would still go to the Stamp Store before going to the Movie Theater) That same Birthday I was given a little Camera and started taking pictures of things that interested me. I was getting my Film developed at a nearby Drugs Store... and then... I walked in a Camera Store downtown and saw all of the different High Priced Cameras on the shelves in that store and began to drool. After a few years of picture taking with my Roll Film Camera I wanted a 35MM Camera, and some years later I got one. I met a schoolmate who showed me the Darkroom that his parents had built in their basement, and I got interested in learning how to do that. Now I use a low price Digital Camera and print pictures with the All-In-One I use with my pc. When I got a house I wanted a Darkroom in the basement, So far I have a Kitchen Sink down there. <G R I N> At the downtown Camera Store, I learned they had another section in the back of the Store that had High Fidelity Audio gear... I Got interested in that too, even though I didn't have the money for it, I hung around that department and listened as the Salesmen would play music for Customers on the different Brands of Hi-Fi stock they sold there. It was the early days of Stereo Tape Recordings and they had a second Tape Head mounted on one of the 1/4 inch Reel To Reel Tape Recorders. It could Play (and probably Record) Stereo Tapes that were recorded with the "Staggered Track" method. I still remember a VERY LARGE Speaker System the store sold. it was a 4 Speaker system called "The Patrician", made by Electro Voice. Iirc the Specs. for it was 20 to 20,000 Cycles, the Bass Speaker was 30". They had two of those connected to a Switch Box they used to show the difference between Amplifiers and Speaker Systems. I always wanted 2 EV Patricians but that never happened (too). At a Radio and TV Parts Store I bought two CalRad Audio Amplifiers (the components were in a Ice Cube sized piece of Epoxy Plastic with the wires sticking out), and a cheap Stereo Phonograph to use with Two 6" Coaxial Speakers I ordered from Lafayette Radio. I also got a Transformer and 4 power diodes to build a Full Wave Bridge Rectifier with them to power my "Stereo Amplifier". Later I built a Heathkit 30 Watt Stereo Amplifier and their FM Tuner to use with the 6" Coaxial Speakers. Yeah, I got interested in Electronics too... I spent many a Dollar at Radio Shack for parts.
