When a kid goes to school heavily armed and starts killing people, they are prepared to die that day. Apparently the most recent shooter in Texas lacked the ability to actually go through with shooting himself, but he says he was planning to. My guess - and it is just a guess - is that a lot of the shootings are related to the growing teenage suicide rate. A school shooting is big national news, as you say. It becomes an attractive option for kids who are leaning towards suicide. They feel insignificant, but can go out famous. I read some research several years ago suggesting that newspaper coverage of suicides led to additional suicides. So you might be onto something. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5 * Origin: Fido Since 1991 | QWK by Web | BBS.DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140) |
