That would have some credibility if John Brown had been elected President
in 1860, but he was hanged in 1859. Or if Abraham Lincoln had been an
abolitionist himself, but he felt that the Constitution prevented
abolition. Or if Congress had not passed the Fugitive Slave Act. Or if
the Supreme Court had ruled the other way in Dred Scott.
