Just thought of something, try starting OpenXP with the /q switch.  
This is supposed to disable audio alerts but whether it does or not is  
a different matter.

Did you know that instead of putting a multitude of switches on the  
commandline, there's a much easier way of achieving the same  
thing(apart from running OpenXP from a batch file). To find out how,  
press <F1> *twice* from OpenXP's main screen and *<Tab>* your way to  
"Command line switches". Scroll down to the bottom of the page and  
you'll see some info about the AUTOEXEC directory. Once you've read  
and digested the info, you may also like to press <Enter> on  
"AUTOEXEC" -> stand by to be amazed! ;-)
