Was believed to protect sailors, as well as to guarantee a safe voyage. The serene color of aquamarine is said to cool the temper, allowing the wearer to remain calm and levelheaded. The 2nd birthstone for March is bloodstone, dark-green jasper flecked with vivid red spots of iron oxide. This ancient stone was used by Babylonians to make seals and amulets. Her measuring tape/magnifier is going in the mail! We have a number of other stories that have been submitted which we'll share in the coming weeks. A number of years ago our daughter bought an old quilt at a rummage sale out in the country. When she unfolded it at home, she found three $100.00 bills tucked inside. Even though she and her husband could have used the unexpected treasure for their young family, she returned the money to the older woman that had sold the quilt. The reason for hiding the money was that the lady and her husband were caring for two teenage grandsons that were not very trustworthy and she had to hide cash or it would disappear. I was very proud of our daughter for practicing the honesty she had learned at home! If you have an interesting story about a hidden treasures send your story to newsletter@tias.com and we may publish it here. If we use your story, we'll send you the TIAS pocket tape measure & magnifier. Please be sure to include your name and postal mailing address when sending in your story.
