I think BBS America had a part in getting DW> The Hour killed, This was at least to my recollection a "joint" venture, and thus BBCA aka AMC (nee Cablevision now that jerk from FR) pulled their $$$ so there was no funding... AMC just can not deal with anything too cerebral ie: Rubicon! Feed the Beast... yet they let that crapfest zombie junk live on! GAWWD! BLECH! I think the latest show like this to die because of US funding disappearing is: Houdini & Doyle.. since it by technicality was a NON US SHOW I watched.I was done and complete by the time it hit the US... but because it too relied on US $$$ to get done.. it was cancelled... URRRRHGGHHHHH!!!!!! DW> but I think Spy still had some funny left in it, and I DW> know DW> that Moone Boy does. Home Fires was good, but I have not seen season 2 yet DW> so maybe it was time for it to go. I might check out their info... I am rather, ok... VERY FINICKY on my shows... 1) Female Cast 2) Plot 3) Female Cast 4) Premise 5) FEMALE CAST! DW> PBS. I for the longest time, just accepted that PBS was the medium by which the UK, mainly, shows, err, showed up ( ), but with modern tech, I learned I no longer need to rely on them or BBAC or any one else. My biggest issue right now is finding out about shows outside the US! I've picked up Private Eyes (Global - .CA), 800 Words (NZ7), Shoot the Messenger (CBC .CA - NEWEST JUST STARTED!!!)....So it DW> I have to give the BBC props as they have kept other shows running a while. DW> Last of the Summer Wine ran forever, and they've brought Dr. Who back at DW> least once! I think a lot of "legacy" shows may have continued in a move to not feel the wraith of their audience.... As for Dr. Who... meh... never really cared for it that much... it was a weirdo show that came on PBS after the US3 (then) cartoons.. it was sort of my last chance to watch TV before I had to go do chores on SAT AM... At times the chores were more fun! Not a Dr. Who person... I only watched the "revival" which is violation of "my rules" because of Karen Gillan REDHEAD!!!!!!!! And later for Alex Kingston!!!! REDHEAD!!!!!!!!!! I mean any show that starts off with Karen in a WPC "uniform." I am hooked! Then they horked it up with the fiancee/husband baggage... A few of the older "series" aka seasons I looked at with the blonde Piper or something.. it was OK... she was/is a cutie.... Overall its just not my thing... and then they ruined it... I am not big on change, and central to the Dr. Who is a change in "companions" in other words you change the hottie! BZZTT!! Coleman is a cutie... but that role was/is wrong for her.. I am enjoying here in Victoria. DW> BBCA is the culprit here. Like I said above, I've ELIMINATED the "middle man" as it were! DW> That is what I was saying! They are not too patient with them. Seems I was more going towards that they don't run LONG ENOUGH for me... I like a show say Frost, Morse (Yes theres an issue with the lead obvisouly), Lewis, Endeavour etc... I just want S99 of Lewis etc... And say like Doc Martin.. that show could go and go and go and go and go and I would be happy! Much of its cast has moved on to things like DCI Banks = Catz, Humans for the one receptionist etc... DW> like DW> the US5 are funny about that. Some they are too patient with, others get DW> the DW> boot before they really get going good. Overall it seems regardless of country that shows are on too short of a life cycle... especially in the US and on the US5....Which is why they don't get any love from me... I should be all over shows like: Conviction - ATWELL!!!!!! Notorius - Piper Perabo.. .yet NOPE! They will meet Madame Guillotine shortly as it is...so no reason to get invested. The US5 and many others are too blindered by the outdated "demo" ratings.. but thats another rant.err..discussion.... DW> Same here. I have quit watching some shows when they kill off my favorite, DW> and usually (but not always!) female, characters. Last Ship met that fate here... When they didn't "save" Mitra in the next season.. and then blew up the remaining hotties, and it appeared that they got one sick from radiation and were not using another enough.. CLICK! DELETED! This is what annoys me in Bond movies.. I've lost count on the number there... DW> I don't wanna know. Actually, that may be one I should have seen coming, DW> though. My understanding is that the books only have one "female lead" but DW> they had to sort of split the character in two for TV when the original DW> lead DW> actress got pregnant. I am not saying a thing... I know the UK press and audience when bat crazy when the leads appeared on the UK AM shows and blerted out the huge bomb of this....so you may want to stay away from UK sites about the show! IF this is how they end that show... I am going to be right royally annoyed! Oh wait I ALREADY AM! * Origin: news://news.wpusa.dynip.com | acct req'd to post (1:3634/12) |
