To answer your question as to 'why' - because it wouldn't have been the
money maker it was!

Matrix was a completely new idea, but it was only three movies (yes, some
games, animated shorts and graphic novels too, but even that was VERY
limited merchandising compared to SW or ST). Aliens franchise was a new
'thing.' I think there are plenty of 'new things' and 'original ideas'
out there for those looking.

As for Star Trek, the 'reboot' didn't invalidate the old stuff. If anything
it CONFIRMED it but also moved into a new direction. The old stuff still
happened, just that the timeline has been altered. To me that's better than
a simple 'reboot' and invalidating all the old stuff.

As for Star Wars, the EU had gotten, IMHO, very wild and disjointed. I
actually LIKE that they started the canon over. I am now reading it all -
the novels I'm caught up on - the comics I got behind on but I now have
them all and just need to catch up.

I was already watching Clone Wars. Rebels has been GREAT, IMO!

But again, I see your point and I'll raise you respect and an
'agree to disagree.' :-)

Jimmy
