NB>> Clever enough... <G> I've not seen any episodes, merely heard about
NB>> the series.... I might have read an early volume of the series, a long
NB>> time ago, but I'm not sure if I did or not.... I've read a lot of
 NB>> science fiction/fantasy over the years.... :)

AA> Have you read the Gentleman Bastard series by Scott Lynch? Currently:
AA> [1] The Lies of Locke Lamora
AA> [2] Red Seas Under Red Skies
AA> [3] The Republic of Thieves
AA> [4] The Thorn of Emberlain: scheduled for late 2021!
 AA> If not.. It's pseudo-pirate sci-fi/fantasy adventure. I am sure you
AA> know how to dig up reviews if you are curious to learn more. People

Not read any of those... haven't been getting any books like that
recently... have enough on my plate as it is... We do subscribe to
Analog (Science Fiction/Science Fact), and I've been able to assuage the
addiction with that... ;)

AA> who have explored Brandon Sanderson and Robert Jordan have let me know
AA> that they appreciated the steer to Scott Lynch. It is only a trilogy
AA> sofar, unlike the +12 volume series of the other authors, but it's hard
AA> to be patient for #4!

That's the way it is with good serieses... :)

AA> Another amazing story series: Kingkiller Chronicles, by Patrick
 AA> Rothfuss.
AA> [1] Name of the Wind (Day 1)
 AA> [2] Wise Man's Fear (Day 2)
 AA> [3] <TBD>
AA> Each volume (and both are over 700pages) covers the events of one day!
AA> This is another series that one just can't seem to wait to continue.

I've gotten almost to the point that I don't want to start a new series
for fear that that will turn out to be the case... I hate having to
wait... <G> When there's a serial in Analog, I'll often wait to start
it until all the installments have arrived, only read everything else in
each issue.... :)

NB>> Books often have a lot more richness than TV shows or movies.... it's
NB>> often surprising (and gratifying) when a show or movie actually does a
NB>> creditable job of covering an entire book... :)

AA> I can't think of too many film/book combos that I've come across that
AA> were "true and complete" to the original book, and of course I wouldn't
AA> be able to remember what I saw.
AA> The first Harry Potter film followed the events in the first book VERY
 AA> close and complete.

Yes, I remember reading and seeing that one... and that was well done...

AA> One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is another book/film near match.

Never read the book on that one, just saw the movie...

AA> But.. films being typically limited to about 100 minutes couldn't
AA> possibly be "complete" in every detail, and that is appreciated.

Quite true....

AA> For a crazy "study" I watched all the film adaptations of The Great
AA> Gatsby a few years ago. Each film deviated from the original story in
AA> their own way and even injected a director's own ideas.

Indeed crazy, but I'm sure that it was entertaining all the same... :)

AA> For me, bottom line: the book is often better - where my own
AA> imagination can generate the scenes and settings.

Agreed. I remember, way back when I was in high school, my sister and I
stopped in at the local movie house on the way home, and saw the epic
movie Gone With the Wind... We were so taken by it that we then stopped
at the library branch on the way home from the movie, and checked out
the book. She read the book straight through, finishing at about
bedtime, and handed it to me... I read through the night, and finished
by the morning... That was another that was rather true to the book...
but the book was indeed richer, since one couldn't possibly get it all
in... even though the movie was longer than normal... :)
