Daryl Stout | ED VANCE | Wasps Nests&Bird Nests |

Ed, EV>The LP Gas Tank in the backyard used to occasionally get a Wasp Nest EV>inside of the Lid, or a Bird would build a nest inside the Lid. Three reasons I prefer the COLD weather instead... 1) No insects -- especially the stinging ones, which I'm allergic to. 2) No heat illness -- you'd be surprised how many go to the ER each summer. 3) No tornadoes -- the next several days could be very stormy. In fact, on the Storm Prediction Center Website yesterday (May 14), there was a MARGINAL RISK of severe weather for Days 1, 2, and 3 -- with a SLIGHT to ENHANCED RISK of severe weather on Days 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 -- I've never seen all 8 days with a severe weather risk area before. Saturday into Sunday (especially Saturday night) looks very stormy here...with another potent system early next week...and all modes of severe weather are possible. I got recertified as a Skywarn Storm Spotter, with my new location (back at what was my Mom's home), and my new callsign. But, if I have a report, I call the National Weather Service DIRECTLY, as the weather nets around here had so many "lids"...with reports like: A) I have a funnel cloud that's not rotating (they're likely seeing scud clouds). B) The tornado sirens are going off. C) It just started raining/lightning here. None of those are "reportable criteria". Several wouldn't be caught dead checking into the monthly Skywarn Training Net (to learn proper protocol, reporting procedures, etc.)...but they come out of the woodwork when the real thing arrives. That's another reason I changed my emphasis from weather to railroad crossing safety. And, even the weather affects the trains. With Tornado Warnings, the signals are RED BLOCKED -- everything STOPS!! And, the strong winds can blow the cars right off the rails!!
