Joe, JM> A few years ago when I got my new (to me) laptop I lost my cable. Sounds like a personal problem. <g,d,r> But, of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most. <G> JM>(The junction box is two and a half stories off the ground on the side of JM>the wall and someone once even tampered with that! We have had students JM>here and they are always looking to get everything free). One time, I didn't know the WiFi was open on my system, and the person in the apartment behind me, grabbed a movie off of my feed. I got a nasty letter from Comcast about it, and I had to get someone to show me how to disable that, or set it up right (I was never told). JM> Long story short she eventually gave in and a repairman was here a JM>couple of days later. He said the problem was with the modem, replaced JM>it with a new one that is also a router and back in business. With AT&T's DSL modems, every time there's a power outage, or a thunderstorm (lightning hit), the modems are fried. JM> In the past the repair guy came when he felt like it. Now they say JM>such-and-such a time and are there in that time frame. No more making JM>appointments to be here after I got off work only to find a note they had JM>been here an hour before I got off work then reschedule for 10 days out. I had 2 calls to make yesterday...one to Comcast to negotiate a lower package (I still had to pay the higher bill today...I hope they grant a credit next month), and the other to deactivate my Mom's cellphone I had bought for her. When she dialed 911 from it from the nursing home (from her dementia), and it wasn't an emergency, I told the staff to take it away from her. I hated to do that, but the ramifications could've been real nasty. But, in both calls, they asked if I'd like to be called back in x number of minutes, instead of holding on the line. I said "yes" to both, and that was worth it. JM> I don't even have a tv. Got rid of it years ago. I rarely watch it, except maybe for The Weather Channel, and that's rare. JM> Most all businesses here have free wifi for customers, get a temporary JM>USID/PW, sometimes only a PW is required. I rarely use the public WiFi. JM> I have heard the buses have wifi on them and I think Lyft and Uber does JM>as well. The Rock Region Metro (bus) has WiFi. JM> I loved that show. I used to hurry home for lunch to watch it. JM> Of course the big hit of the show was "Gene Gene the Dancing Machine". JM> You know of course after the show went off the air he developed JM>diabetes and lost both his legs. He been dead for years. Wow. Daryl === ■ OLX 1.53 ■ We all have to go sometime -- where's the toilet?? --- SBBSecho 3.07-Win32 * Origin: FIDONet: The Thunderbolt BBS - tbolt.synchro.net (1:19/33) |
