Its all too common here. And people will watch as a car ahead of them sinks and go on any way. Once some years ago a big storm hit and they were flooded. I was driving a truck at the time and pulled over to wait it out. The water goes down after a short while. This one viaduct had tow trucks on either side. A driver would pull up, look at the water (you could almost hear the little wheels in their heads going around), drive on down and sink. The tow truck driver would ask if they want pulled out. Then he would wade through the water, hook the car and pull it out. For a sight fee, about $20. A minute or two later another nitwit would try and it continued till the viaduct was passable. Sometimes a driver would try while the first car is being pulled out and set to the side. > On the ham radio nets, I address the men (especially the older ones) > as Mister John, Mister Roy, etc. -- and the ladies as Miss Connie, Miss > Virginia, etc. The same here. I never had a problem when titles were changed to MS since its pronounced Miz, which just a Southern way of saying Miss. We've been calling people Miz Betty, Miz Barbara for many years before it became popular. > LOL...it needs a sun visor on it to protect my eyes. <G> You don't need a visor while sitting in the corner facing a wall. > I admit I like one good snow a year, The only time I enjoy snow is looking out the window at it. > we normally get ice storms We get those quite often as well. > to get a new promotion on the cable, but more so the high speed > internet. Doing both of those will save me $100 a month. I've had broadband since '01 when it was first offered. In addition the laptop (but not desktop) has wifi (along with the phone and tablet). Comcast provides, for a small monthly fee, a router which is really nice to use wifi at home. The city has free limited wifi downtown here which is really nice. Limited in the sense it only covers so far, not in speed. > JM> I have many recordings of "The Goon Show" from the BBC in the '50s he starred in. An insane program. > > I guess that's where "The Gong Show" got its name. No connection what ever. Chuck Barris took the idea of the gong from Major Bowles Amateur Hour, which his show was a spoof of. Maj. Bowles had a much smaller one on his table near his mic. The Goon Show had a cast of characters. Sort of a early Monty Python. Joe --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5 * Origin: Fido Since 1991 | QWK by Web | BBS.FIDOSYSOP.ORG (1:123/140) |
