Joe, JM> The tracks for the mainline CSX (nee C&O) divide Huntington North and JM>South*. Many years ago, lost in the fog of time, viaducts were made JM>under the tracks for traffic. All are clearly marked X'x" clearance. You have to wonder if folks bother to read the signs. JM>Yet there are truckers who ignore that and while the tops are not sheared JM>off (due to speed) they do get stuck and have to be towed out. JM> (*When Huntington was laid out in 1871, the tracks were on the edge of JM>town, out of the way. As time passed and the city grew people moved to JM>the southside it was no longer a boundary). One did get stuck under a railroad overpass in North Little Rock, on the south end of the yard, just north of the drawbridge over the Arkansas River. Also, several of these overpasses note with warning signs that "Road Unsafe When Under Water"...but you'd be surprised how many ignore those signs as well. JM> I was raised as a Southern gentleman. Part of that is opening/holding JM>doors for others. Some younger folk still do, but for many the person JM>behind is on their own. Also part of this was allowing older people to JM>go first. On the ham radio nets, I address the men (especially the older ones) as Mister John, Mister Roy, etc. -- and the ladies as Miss Connie, Miss Virginia, etc. -- whether the ladies are married or not. When asked why I do that, it's one word...RESPECT. If I give it, I know I'll get it in return. JM>> I thought I had a dunce cap on order. <G> JM> I still have that with your name on it. JM> I was giving you a break. LOL...it needs a sun visor on it to protect my eyes. <G> JM> For me the less snow and cold the better. I admit I like one good snow a year, but we normally get ice storms down here. Back in 2000, we had back to back ice storms, and parts of the state were without power for 6 weeks. JM>> Now, we're on the flip side into Tornado Season JM> Picky, picky, picky. I'd say "sue me", but you wouldn't get much. I deactivated my Mom's cellphone I was paying for her, because in her dementia, she dialed 911 when it was NOT an emergency, which is a no-no. Then, I called Comcast to get a new promotion on the cable, but more so the high speed internet. Doing both of those will save me $100 a month. JM> The birds will eat the bugs. I wish they'd eat the stinging insects. JM> Absolutely. And once the rain is done, unless there's flooding, its JM>gone. Snow tends to stick around a long time. And, while the snow is pretty when it first falls, it gets dirty and ugly in a hurry. JM> Some burning is natures way of cleaning out the dead wood so new plants JM>can grow. The ashes left also provide nutrients for the new plants. This is true. When a friend does the yard work, I let him mulch the leaves and grass, as it provides nutrients for the soil. JM> I often think to myself when a car peels from a red light, "Better JM>hurry, you don't want someone to beat to the next one". Really. JM>> As for the human version (Peter Sellars JM> He was so good, a fine comedian. And, a lot of the stuff was so absurd!! JM> I have many recordings of "The Goon Show" from the BBC in the '50s he JM>starred in. An insane program. I guess that's where "The Gong Show" got its name.
