In a message on 11-28-18 Charles Stephenson said to All: Hello Charles, CS> Ok, another question, what's the connection with BBS'ing and HAM CS> radio? I HAVE seen, over the years, there were alot of HAM CS> radio/BBS's in my area in the 90's. Curious what's the connection? I'm running this HAM-BOX BBS as a true Bulletin Board System, distributing ARRL, Amsat, swedish and finnish (translated to swedish) bulletins to hams in Sweden and Finland as well as locally to all interested. I'm also keeping file repositories for, mostly free, log book programs, auxiliary programs for hams, and d:o file repositories for operating systems like DOS, OS/2, Windows and BBS programs. Amiga was also there in the beginning but it has died because of lacking activity. Regarding the Amiga: I have always been disappointed that it was classified as game only machine because the operating system was so advanced that it easily could have taken up the fight for a proper operating system like OS/2. Also the Amateur Radio Newsline that Ed mentioned is one echo that died because of lacking interest. Also there are of course discussion echoes like this one that are useful if you want to discuss various things but they are not the same thing as personally talk to other hams via SSB or CW (Morse) since that way you get the replies immeadetely. Locally we did also have a packet radio BBS operating at 1200 bps on 2m but because I found it too slow I made a 70cm (432 MHz) transceiver for 9600 bps packet radio. When I had it going the local club decided to close down the packet radio system. Consequently I added a microphone and speaker amplifiers and had a 70cm transceiver. Transceiver is a combined transmitter/receiver in one unit. So much this time. Any further questions will be replied to another time Have a good night, Holger ..
