I've been following this thread a little. Sounds like you're having the same
problem I was having.

When I first loaded MRC, I got the 'menu' but it looked like it was stuck, it
wasn't showing anything. I could pull up the /help and exit out but that's all
it did. (Is your's doing that? I didn't see your exact problem. When I set it
up, I missed a few steps. Here's what I did to fix them:

When I first set it up, I renamed/copied the sample ini files that came with
the MRC packet, but I forgot to edit some of the default stuff to reflect my
BBS. When I first loaded up MRC, like I said in above paragraph, it laded MRC,
but all that showed on the remote screen was the MRC menu, but didn't show
any connection. So I double-checked. I found that I copied the wrong sample
ini's.

After I did that, it STILL didn't fix my issue, but THEN it showed my BBS on
the list of connected BBSes. So, I opened up port 5000 on my router (which
might not even have been the cause of the problem, but I did open it up
anyways), then I went and TRIPLE-checked, and saw that I left some of the
default settings that I should have changed to reflect my BBS, and it worked!

I think MY issue was that I just was trying to get it working quick, and I
overlooked some simple steps, and made it harder than it was. If you want, I
can look at your ini's and see if you did what I did?

Hope this helps
Regards,
